Descripción:This data comes from a study with quantification of marine litter along the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica, during January 2021. The study was carried out by CIMAR, Universidad de Costa Rica and published in Marine Pollution Bulletin (Sibaja-Cordero & Gómez-Ramírez, 2022). A total of fourteen sandy beaches were visited. The sampling was performed above the high tide mark on each beach locality. Marine litter was collected in a transect 3 m wide and 100 m long parallel to the sea to standardize sampling at all 14 beaches. The columns in the matrix are items of marine litter that were collected, separated, counted, and weighed. The first column is the name of the sandy beach; the second column is the general type of marine litter. Column 3 is the category of marine litter in the CIMAR classification; column 4 is the name of the items in the Ospar catalog. Column 5 is the Ospar code. Columns 6 and 7 are the weight and the quantity of marine litter items within the transept, respectively.
