| Descripción: | This document details the research work to obtain the master’s degree in education with an emphasis on Family Guidance from the University of Costa Rica. This work is part of the Guidance discipline, considering, after a thorough review of background and theoretical references, that the voluntary non-ownership of children has increased in recent years in different parts of the world. An example of this is that, in Canada, the United States, the Balkan Peninsula and Australia, as well as in Costa Rica according to Vollset et al. (2020), the net reproduction rate is already below the replacement level. However, in this review, the need to deepen the knowledge of the marital dynamics of couples who choose not to have children. To develop the research process, the following question was started: What is the marital dynamics in four couples, regarding the decision not to have children? The systemic positioning was the theoretical reference from which the research topic was understood, specifically from Olson's Circumplex Model and the communication axioms of Watzlawick, Beavin and Jackson, which allowed conceiving the marital dynamics from the dimensions of cohesion, adaptability, and communication. In the methodological approach, a positioning from the interpretive paradigm was assumed, from which qualitative research framed from a phenomenological approach was proposed. On the other hand, the strategies implemented for the generation of information were the circular interview and participant observation, developed with four couples who voluntarily decided not to have offspring. The analysis of the information was carried out in two ways: a manual treatment of the information and an analysis with the ATLAS.ti software, because of this process, six analysis categories were formed that allowed to answer the research question. |
