Descripción:This article develops a theoretical and discursive research about some xenophobic Costa Rican jokes about Nicaraguans. The principal aim is to discursively analyze the stereotypes, the symbolic violence and the perverse attitudes manifested in the comic elements expressed through jokes. In order to do so, there is identified the Costa Rican identity discourse and the role of jokes as perverse manifestations. Freud’s psychoanalytic proposal about the intentionality of jokes is used as well as the theories about superiority, emotional release and incongruence. In methodological terms, there is used a sample of thirty Costa Rican jokes about Nicaraguan people collected through interviews, phone text messages and internet in order to identify their discursive proposals, affective organizations and intentionality.
