Descripción: | The warm and cold events in the Tropical South Atlantic (2° N – 22° S, 35° W – 15° E) region are quantified using sea surface temperature (SST) normalized indices. This oceanic region had shown some influence on the precipitation of the Costa Rica’s Caribbean Slope. A warm (cold) event was defined if the 5-month running mean index was above (below) the fourth (second) quintile for six or more months. As in the Tropical North Atlantic, the event occurrence was non-periodic and the durations showed great variability. Cold events occur 37% of the time and cold events occur 15% of the time. It was not noticed any preferencial semester for the begin or end for both cold and warm events. |
