Methodology for Effective Dose Estimation from External Irradiation to PET/CT Workers at the University of Costa Rica: Comparison with TLD Dosimetric Records

| その他の書誌記述: | Currently, effective dose monitoring for occupationally exposed worker’s (OEWs) is performed with passive personnel dosimeters, such as termoluminescent dosimeters (TLD). Operational dose quantities can be provided when TLD reading occurred. TLD is one of the methodologies recommended by international radiological protection organizations, such as ICRP, IAEA, ISO, in order to carry on the monitoring of workers. More advanced methods, such as Monte Carlo simulations are being used to improve the accuracy of the dose estimates in complex scenarios. The aim of this work is to estimate effective dose (E) for OEW, specifically for the technologist and the nurses which are working at the PET/ CT Unit in the Cyclotron and PET/CT Laboratory of the CICANUM at the University of Costa Rica (UCR). Currently this facility is conducting diagnostic studies by using 18F-FDG. For the effective dose estimation, workers workflow with the patient was considered, also for a time approximation for every task that implies exposure was considered. Additionally, patient’s voiding and radiopharmaceutical decay was considered. Generated results allow us to compare the effective doses to workers and to adapt patient/worker workflow bearing in mind possible changes in the future of the laboratory. It concludes that none of the OEW from the areas mentioned above surpasses the dose limit of 20mSv/year. |
