Descripción:An analysis of the inter-annual variations of the maximum temperature, minimum temperature, diurnal range of temperature (DRT), and average temperature is made, utilizing 23 stations representative of the different regions of the country. As a general pattern, a negative trend in the DRT is found, to which the minimum temperature contributes largely and not so much the maximum temperature. With relation to the average temperature, 12 stations show a negative trend and 11 a positive trend. This points out that although a positive trend in the global average temperature has been reported, there arc variations quite significative at the regional level and in areas so small as Costa Rica. In the absence of cloudiness data, correlations of DRT with sunshine hours and DRT with rainfall were obtained. These correlations are small and do not allow to infer that the pattern of decrease in the DRT is due to an increase in cloudiness.
