Opis:The National Park is located in the Carmen district, in the Central Canton of San José. It is part of the Paseo de las Damas; a set made up of the Jardín de Paz, Morazán, and España parks that, like the National Park, underwent a significant transformation since the late nineteenth century within the framework of liberal governments. The National Monument is the main element of this park, around which its history revolves during the 20th and 21st centuries, and that marks the values and meanings that characterize it. From this monument are identified discourses linked to the construction of national identity.  The immediate environment of the park undergoes important changes during the 20th and 21st centuries, for example, with the construction of institutional buildings and the introduction of elements such as pre-Columbian stone spheres, which reinforce the discourses of power present since the origins of the park. The article reviews the park’s evolution from its origins thus far. Then, it analyzes the discourses present in the different sources consulted to identify values and meanings in the area under study.
