| Beskrivelse: | The report called “Progress on drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Update and SDG Baselines for 2017”- made by the WHO/UNICEF - was analysed in order to identify the efforts made by 232 different countries regarding the drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene indicators. The aim was to determine which countries supplied safe drinking-water to their population for handwashing with soap. A national proposal was established for the classification of handwashing advanced service within the JMP ladder framework. This classification is crucial to prevent enteric and respiratory diseases, likewise the current pandemic of COVID-19 produced by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Only 20 countries (8.6 %) provided data from the three indicators, of which seven countries (35 %) reported safe drinking-water free from faecal contamination with chlorine residual combined with the use of soap. The remaining 13 countries (65 %) reported unknown drinking-water quality. This study suggests the use of safe drinking-water in order to avoid exposure to water borne pathogens when people wash their hands. Therefore, the hygiene advanced service – handwashing – should be done with safe drinking-water free from faecal contamination with chlorine residual in combination with the use of soap. |
