Descripción: | This study describes the sanitary quality of the waters of the beaches of Costa Rica, through sampling carried out by the National Water Laboratory (LNA), within the framework of the Ecological Blue Flag Program in the period 2018 to 2023. The data geometric average of the most probable number of Fecal Coliforms (CF/100 mL) in 182 beaches, allowed classifying the category of the respective waters, with the Microbiological Criteria to evaluate sea waters for swimming or primary contact. The results indicate that 100 beaches (54.9%) qualify as “AA”, that is, less than 10 CF/100 mL; 76 beaches (418%) as “A”, less than 100CF/100mL; 4 (2.2%) as “B”, between greater than 100 CF/100 mL to 240 CF/100 mL. That is, 178 beach waters (98.9%) are suitable for swimming or primary contact. And 2 beaches were classified as unsuitable, for 1.1% of which “D”. |
