| Descrição: | Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a biopolymer of relevance in research and industry, produced by bacteria such as Acetobacter and Komagataeibacter. BC shares a molecular composition similar to plant cellulose (C6H10O5), composed of two subunits (I and II) and a degree of polymerization ranging from 2000 to 6000 units, based on β-1,4 glucosidic bonds that form a reticular and crystalline three-dimensional structure. It is a naturally biocompatible, non-toxic, and versatile compound, with biodegradable and sustainable properties due to its polysaccharide and protein group components. Furthermore, its malleability allows beneficial interactions with tissues in recovery, and it possesses enhanced water retention through its porous structure. |
