Descripción:The objective of this study is to identify the efforts made by the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA), in reducing the concentrations of Arsenic (As) in waters for human use and consumption, detected by the National Water Laboratory (LNA) from 2009. The solutions in chronological order in the communities of Bagaces and other towns in the country have been: replacement of water sources, dilutions with non-polluting sources (less than 10 µg/L), placement and operation to remove As and the large solution of search and identify the source, called “Epifanía” with a production of 115 L/s, to replace the source of the Bagaces supply system; in addition to the extension and connection with other small communal aqueducts, establishing an integrated system: Bagaces, El Chile, Arbolito, Montenegro-Agua Caliente, Falconiana-Bagatzí, completely solving the arsenic crisis.
