Self-care program for the improvement of the quality of life of university athletes

Descripción:The objective of this article is to present the results of the intervention of nursing among athletes from theUniversity of Costa Rica, through a self-care promotion program. It starts with an exploratory descriptive researchto make a diagnosis of their self-care needs, with a population of 40 athletes from different group sportsdisciplines. It educational program was designed; executed and evaluated to know the extent that took in theparticipants. The participating athletes managed to reach the educational objectives proposed, leaving verypositive comments regarding the activities and content of the program. It concluded that it is necessary toperform this kind of intervention with the university athletes, and nursing is a profession that is able to undertakethis work. In addition there is interest by the athletes to continue with these activities and thereby improve theirgeneral health and their sport performance on the long term.
