| الوصف: | This paper proposes to present, although not unanimously recognised, the kind of masonic sociability designed by Hipólito José da Costa, editor of the Correio Braziliense (1808-1822), pioneer of the Brazilian press. Thus, in order to analyse the Masonic sociability defended and transmitted by Hipólito da Costa, I will study not only the editor’s discourse in the Correio, but also in the Diário da minha viagem para Filadélfia, the Diary of my journey to Philadelphia, the Narrative of a Persecution Narrativa da Perseguição and in Letter about Freemasonry Cartas sobre a Framaçonaria all works that reveal Hipolito’s concept of Freemasonry as a society of virtuous men, whose purpose is to do good for families in need. |
