Descripción: | The presence of Chinese people in Costa Rica dates from the 1850, thus there has been more than a century and a half of cultural and economic exchanges. The Chinese culture has mixed with the Costa Rican culture and many families are descendants of this ethnic mix, which we believe has brought benefits to the country. This paper provides a brief history of Chinese immigration in Costa Rica to situate the socio-historical context of the Chinese community established in the country, and then it begins to analyze the reasons for the establishment of political relations between Costa Rica and China in 2007. Seven years of this historical moment allows us to analyze the benefits and advantages of the Costa Rica’s relationship with China. We include data on migration data, trade balance, foreign investment and tourism. The results show that most of the variables analyzed have a growing trend. |
