Analysis of the Domain Learning and Application of Knowledge Proposed by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, within a Group of Young People with Intellectual Disabilities

Descripción:Introduction: This article aims to analyze the domain of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), related to learning and applying knowledge within a group of young people with intellectual disabilities who are part of a transitional programme to adult life at the University of Rosario, in Bogota, Colombia. Methodology: The population that participated in the process corresponds to 20 young people with intellectual disabilities in the city of Bogotá, aged between 16 and 22, as an inclusion criterion was required to have an educational level of schooling in models of integration or special education. They are linked to a transitional programme to adulthood that included components related to home life, community life, employment, learning throughout life and health and safety. Results: The programme options and supports for a transition to adult life, gives young people tools to develop basic skills and learning complex learning to be applied to everyday life and work, and it allowing them to explore new opportunities for personal growth, encouraging interaction with peers and approaching to inclusive education. Discussion: In this research we used the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as a tool, highlighting that it is a classification which identifies the parts of health components and related aspects, developing a profile of functioning and disability. Conclusion: This classification is a tool that allows a comparison of performance levels of a person before and after taking part in a transitional programme to adulthood.
