Περιγραφή:A study was made on the disease incidence in four pejibayeheart of palm varieties during the first 12 months ofdevelopment in the field. Three of the varieties werespineless (Diamantes-1, Diamantes-10 y Diamantes-20) andone was spiny (Utilis-Tucurrique). The trial was carried outin Guápiles, Caribbean region of Costa Rica. The pathogensfound were the fungi Colletotrichum sp. (Black leaf spot),Phytophthora palmivora (Rotting of the spear leaf),Drechslera setariae (Ring spot), Lasidioplodia thebromae(Frayed leaf) and the bacteria Erwinia sp. (Rotting of thestem apex). The Diamantes-10 was consistently andsignificantly less susceptible and Utilis-Tucurrique moresusceptible. But in neither case, the diseases reached a levelof economic importance. Erwinia and Phythophthora showeda relationship of higher incidence with higher rainfall andtemperature.
