Descripción:This article analyzes the role of Primary and Secondary School Guidance Counselors in the Costa Rican Public School System, specifically those in the 2nd Circuit Regional Education Office - San Jose Central. It analyzes the job duties performed by counselors and the legal implications of the educational services provided when compared to the their actual job description as civil servants. This article, which is based on social research, more specifically, educational research, has a qualitative focus. Given the diversity of the findings, it is necessary to possess insight into the career path of guidance counselors, the supervisors to whom they report – the school principal. A general overview of legal management is also necessary in order to be able to substantially improve, fulfill and provide educational services.
