More specifically, the neo-figuration style of the artist Manuel de la Cruz González, which is portrayed by his work Desnudo Rojo or Red Nude (1978). Methodologically, a semiotic analysis is used through a process of interpretation of the sign in three levels (syntactic, semantic and pragmatic). Likewise, the notion of “neofigurative art” is conceptualized using a theoretical approach. Additionally, the socio-historical context of the Costa Rican Salones Nacionales de Artes Plásticas (National Halls of Plastic Arts) from 1972 is referenced in this article. Through the analysis and references previously mentioned, it is possible to determine which elements motivated and promoted the artistic production in Costa Rica, which combined with the Costa Rican and Latin American context of change in the social paradigm (moral crisis), and the emergence of globalization and neoliberalism, were a clear influence on the initialization process of the Costa Rican neo-figuration. This influence is explicitly displayed by the Costa Rican painter Manuel De la Cruz González in his art piece “Desnudo Rojo” (Red Nude) from 1978.
