Beschreibung:Ninety-eight bats from Santa Ana, province of San José, Costa Rica were examined (87 Glossophaga soricina leachii, 5 Hemiderma perspicillatum aztecum and 6 Desmodus rotundus murinus). Schizotrypanum vespertilionis was found in the blood of the first two species mentioned, in 27.7 per cent of a total of 92 specimens. In one of the vampires was found a trypanosome of the "megadermal" group. The specimens of Glossophaga and Hemiderma, besides, showed infection by microfilarire in 26 per cent of the total. Inoculations in laboratory animals (mice and guinea pigs) with bat blood and with cultures obtained from it, gave consistently negative results. No developmental forms of trypanosomes were obtained in any of 41 triatominre used in xenodiagnosis (10 P. chinai, 8 T. dimidiata, 8 T. infestans, 7 R. prolixus, 5 R. pallescens and 5 T. phyllosoma).
