Current measuring the results of program for drugdependent persons in the Hospital William Allen Taylor in Turrialba

Descripción:This article documents reports the first attempt of personnel of a regional hospital in implementing a program for drug dependant individuals in primary, secondary and tertiary mode of prevention. It included a prevention plan focused on the primary and secondary schools in the hospitals area of service. The program consists in a series of interventions by a multidisciplina and dependence to psychotropic substances. This type of intervention in a regional hospital is the first for Costa Rica´s Socialized Medical Care System. In August of 2008 to November of 2010 there were 505 psychological interventions. A sample of 101 medical records indicated that the product of these interventions amounted to a total of 4782 days of sustained abstinence. Thirteen of the patients in this program relapsed which comprises 22% of the sample.The average was 82.4 days of abstinence per 3.7psicological interventions in the patients reviewed. Fitfty three percent of the population were between the ages of 40 to 60 years of age. The primary substance of abuse was alcohol which amounted to 45% of the sample. Six case were implanted in a substitution opioids programming.
