Juvenicide in El Salvador: From the Firm Hand to the State of Exception

Cur Síos:The objective of this article is to examine the processes of physical and symbolic annihilation that have occurred in Central American countries, mainly in those that have opted for punitive populism as a state policy, using of the analytical category of juvenicide. The permanent State of Exception adopted in El Salvador, by the government of Nayib Bukele, is analyzed as a case study, as a youth-killing device that, despite maintaining historical continuity with Mano Dura policies, is leading to unprecedented levels the imprisonment, murder and physical and symbolic erasure of large segments of marginalized youth and their future prospects.
