Descrizione:This article examines land use change in the Los Santos region, which covers the Costa Rican cantons of Tarrazú, Dota and León Cortés, based on agricultural censuses. It examines how the distribution of agricultural land use has changed, emphasizing the expansion of coffee cultivation as the main permanent crop, the decline in pasture and arable land coverage and the increase in forested areas. Through the analysis of the 1984 and 2014 censuses, relevant dynamics in land use and the region’s productive transformation were identified. The result shows a significant transformation in the agrarian structure, with has consequences for the local economy and the sustainability of the rural landscape.
