Description:In 1887 Emilia Pardo Bazán published La madre naturaleza as the second part of his major work, Los Pazos de Ulloa, written and published just a year earlier. Since that time, more than a century later, both novels continue to attract the interest of critics and scholars in terms of formal, thematic or creation aspects. The purpose of this study is to analyze the pardobacian work in terms of intertextuality. Once defined these textual relations, we intend to achieve broader and deeper understanding of the creative process as well as the intent of the author in writing La madre naturaleza. Throughout this study we will show how much the writer is based on trends of thought, tradition, and concrete literary models.
