その他の書誌記述:The baroreflex constitutes one of the basic mechanisms for an adequate understanding of cardiovascular physiology, due to its role in the control of mean arterial pressure in the short term. The objective of this bibliographical review was to demonstrate in detail the latest findings about this physiological mechanism and its functioning documented in studies carried out during the last ten years, both in healthy people and in others in whom various pathophysiological conditions like orthostatic hypotension or postural tachycardia syndrome. Therefore, it was shown that the baroreflex favored a compensatory change in all the aforementioned cases, which returned the pressures to their normal physiological ranges in case of mean arterial pressure pathophysiological increase and decrease, and it was also concluded that the development of techniques and procedures that measure the sensitivity of the baroreflex allow a comprehensive evaluation of its functionality in order to work on the development of strategies and mechanisms that lead to an improvement in its function in patients in whom this gear does not work as in a healthy subject. Key words: Cardiovascular system, arterial pressure, blood pressure, heart rate, baroreflex. Source: MeSH.
