Descripción:The purpose of this article is to contribute to the modernization of higher education through the transformation and renewal of the curriculum as a tool of academic excellence, generating innovating and disseminating knowledge, equity, and social inclusion, as well as knowledge internationalization and globalization.This study corresponds to an educational research with a qualitative approach. The objective of this study is to analyze the curricular design of the Atlantic Branch of the University of Costa Rica. One of the results obtained is a planning strategy to design a university curriculum for the Atlantic Branch of the University of Costa Rica. This paper includes a theoretical framework about planning strategies and curriculum design for universities. In the same way, it shows the relationship between education and curriculum. The product of the research process is to propose a planning strategy to innovate, renew and/or redefine the curriculum design already used at the Atlantic Branch regarding teacher training, research, and social projection.
