Descripción:Since the linguistic turn burst in, history became the target of critics that put in doubt its scientific condition and, moreover, its own explanatory capacity. In the perspective of some of these critics, historiography was not more than a well documented account that responded to the same meaning structures that characterized literature and narrative in a general way. Furthermore, professional historians have to face up the success of historical novel, which received a systematic support from editorial firms. Facing historiography this double check, it is necessary to defend the scientific character and explanatory capacity of history. Reflections developed in this article direct precisely to that purpose, starting by a critical lecture of two examples of historical novel and a comparison of that narrative form with the proper of historiographical operation.
