Treatment for psychoactive substance use in Michoacán, Mexico: A study with a gender perspective

| その他の書誌記述: | Introduction: This study addresses the need to identify current trends in psychoactive substance use among people receiving treatment for substance use disorders in Michoacán de Ocampo. The objective was to identify the main characteristics of these trends, the conditions under which treatment is sought, and the substances associated with service demand. This will contribute to the analysis of regional public policies on this issue from a gender perspective. Methodology: The work has a quantitative, descriptive, correlational, retrospective cross-sectional approach, using a decision tree model based on the statistics of people who came to receive treatment for substance use in the year 2024 in different public and private institutions of the state, considering as dependent variable the type of drug of impact, based on sex, drug of initiation, age of initiation and age of impact. Results: The study reveals that alcohol and tobacco remain the primary entry-level drugs for both men and women. Women show a shorter period between the use of the initial drug and impact drug, and a higher rate of legal drug use. Males show higher methamphetamine use as impact drug and longer periods before initiating treatment. Conclusions: The need to strengthen preventive interventions, primarily among children and adolescents, from a gender perspective and with special attention to methamphetamine, is evident. It is also necessary to expand the availability of specialized public addiction services within the state, considering spaces designed to respond to the particular needs of women. |
