Descripción:In the context of medical specialties (MS) in Costa Rica, the student population acts as CCSS officials; in addition, the teaching staff also fulfills their role as doctor-professors. Faced with this overload of functions, MS have limited experience in the technical-evaluation field. For this reason, the MS in Geriatrics and Gerontology of the UCR voluntarily participated in a research-educational process whose objective was the construction of an evaluative model that demonstrates the quality of its specialty in three areas: training processes, students, and teachers. The model was developed with directors, students, and teachers of the MS. It was produced from an integral DICO design, in which the qualitative component was deprived, through the participatory-action-research method. In addition, two quantitative instruments were generated based on evidence of validity and reliability (Cronbach's alpha, Omega coefficient and expert judgment). The main discussions held during the field work revolved around the diagnosis of the MS, the development of evidence for future self-assessment processes, and the identification of proxy variables and indicators for the model.
