Description:The C677T polymorphism in the 5,10 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene was analyzed using the PCR-RFLP in 132 between 20 and 59 years old in the city of Santa Ana, El Salvador. In addition, he performed a dental evaluation, medical interview and clinical tests of triglycerides, cholesterol and glucose. The allelic and genotypic frequencies were 677: TT = 0.22, CT = 0.59, CC = 0.19. The frequency of obesity in the population is the most recurrent modifiable cardiovascular risk. Comparing the allelic and genotypic frequencies among the population with traditional risk factors such as cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, BMI, we found no statistically significant differences for the Kruskal-Walis test. The most frequent family history was arterial hypertension 0.47, diabetes mellitus 0.44. The 0.62 of the study population was classified with periodontitis that was considered in the study as a non-traditional cardiovascular risk factor for its inflammatory action and increase in blood fibrinogen.
