Descripción:In Diego Saavedra Fajardo's República literaria (1670), it is possible to find a mode of baroque criticism that was extremely influential in a certain Spanish critical tradition. This study aims to interpret the duplicity and aporias of baroque cultural criticism through an analysis of the philological satire of the Murcian writer. Throughout that work, one finds a double critical judgment, ambivalent in its own critical dichotomies, an allegorical mode of representation as allusive as indeterminate and, finally, a containment of critical questioning under the maxims of a certain literary reason of State. It is possible to conclude that República literaria is far from the illustrated Republic of letters and rather exhibits the folds and contradictions of a split cultural consciousness.
