Descripción:This text presents the main results obtained from the review of research conducted from Social Work since 1956 until 2014, whose main theme refers to the theoretical-methodological foundations of Social Work in Costa Rica. The objective of the article is to expose the main tendencies of the production of knowledge in this matter, identifying research orientations and their main results. For the methodology, databases of final graduation works of the School of Social Work were used, as well as the  documentation system, (SIBDI) of the University of Costa Rica, selecting by content and later organizing data tables according to subject, object, objectives, theoretical foundations, methodological strategy, among other elements. This allowed us to identify the main trends that mark the study of the theoretical-methodological foundations. Later the exposure was defined from two main categories (the first of them subdivided into three parts) and an element (not necessary considered a trend) is important in the development of the discussion on this topic. This is intended to provide an input for the reconstruction and analysis of the elements that constitute the theoretical and methodological foundation of Costa Rican Social Work.
