From Perception to Action: Social Dynamics in the Interpretation of Heritage Materials in Costa Rica

| その他の書誌記述: | Introduction: This paper analyzes the construction of Costa Rica’s material heritage. Objective: To understand how cultural assets have been redefined over time —from the late 19th century to the early 21st century— by studying the evolution of heritage from private to collective, reflecting on national identities. Methods: From an interdisciplinary approach integrating aesthetics and semiotics, this study examines the dynamics of (re)signification, (re)interpretation, and (re)valuation of Costa Rica’s heritage. Results: The construction of heritage is influenced by power structures and social struggles. Through processes of resignification aimed at legitimizing historical and social narratives, cultural objects acquire new meanings and values. This includes the incorporation of subaltern voices and the revaluation of silenced cultural elements. Conclusions: Heritage is not only a legacy of the past, but also a contemporary construction that reflects and transforms social identities. The global adoption of the neoliberal model contributed to the reconfiguration of cultural policies and cultural identity, which has allowed the incorporation of new voices. |
