الوصف:Geography has been a branch of knowledge that provided significant contributions in the process of invention of national identity in Costa Rica. For this, it was necessary to publish works that synthesized the main physical and social aspects that characterized the Costa Rican territory and its differentiation from the rest of Central America. These works incorporated new identity elements by increasing knowledge of the Costa Rican territory, defining boundaries with neighboring countries, creating maps that represented Costa Rica to strengthen the image of the country and new techniques were devised to disseminate geographic knowledge in primary and high schools, between the publication of Lecciones de Geografía (1833) and the conclusion of the limit with Panama and the foundation of the National Geographic Institute of Costa Rica (1944).
