الوصف:The depiction of landscape raises questions about visuality and the consciousness of the observer. The medium or environment thus represented is examined both from an individual perspective and from the aesthetic viewpoint of the onlooker, who is seduced by what they contemplate. Returning to this key notion in the development of perception and the gaze, this study focuses on a function of landscape that was first established in painting, where it serves as a frame or setting, that is, as a code that allows the viewer to situate and orient themself through its references and stimuli within the Greco-Roman world, as in the poetry of Rubén Darío. This article proposes a reading of landscape as a cultural code and analyzes the specific case of his celebrated poem “Coloquio de los centauros.”
