Descripción:The present paper is a summary of field observations on small mammals (Rodentia), obtained in Biological Station of Boracei Sao Paulo, Brazil, between July 1963 and September 1964 (12 capture periods, but only 7 by author). The more intensive were the periods 1 & 2, 1963 and 7, 1964, on line-trapping over the plot in an undisturbed part of the Station, about 14 km south of Salesopolis, where a total of 364 captures were made (tables 1 & 2). The animals were marked by ear notching and toe clipping _ but our experience does not recommend ear piercing as a permanent method. A total of 30 traps in 5-6 line-trapping at grid of 2400 to 6500 m2 of area, (traps spaced: 10, 15 and 20 meters) in the virgin forest, revealed 76 rodents in 353 captures and 56 days. A description ánd analysis of the are a, baits, trapping routine, methods, meteorologic conditions, windfall, mortality in the traps, ectoparasite fauna, sex ratio and weight, and activity of the animals is given.
