Descripción:During the period 2014-2015 the Research Program in Sustainable Urban Development of the University of Costa Rica carried out the project "Tourist Development Plan of the canton ofGuatuso "and" Development Plan of the district of Curubandé, canton of Liberia ". Project financed by the IDB Inter-American Development Bank and managed by the National System of Conservation Areas SINAC, the Municipality of Guatuso and the Municipality of Liberia. The objective of the project was to generate a proposal that would promote the development of rural tourism. As a result of the diagnosis, some of the Petrogravures that are located on the banks of the Colorado River were destroyed. For this reason, the ProDUS team presented the corresponding complaint to the National Museum and the authorities of the Municipality of Liberia. The National Museum made a reconnaissance tour andgenerated a document with guidelines for the preservation of heritage. Subsequently the document was presented to the authorities of the Municipality, who must generate the necessary actions to avoiddestruction of the resource. This document focuses on the lessons learned that will be ofutility for other projects where the cultural heritage component is included as acentral element of a Sustainable Tourism Development Plan.
