Afrontamiento ante riesgos ambientales-sociales durante la contigencia por Covid-19 en hombres y mujeres mayores

Descripción:Since March 2020, countries faced a public health problem, the contingency caused by COVID-19 and its consequences. This period represented various risks for the elderly, who faced these new and changing circumstances using their internal and external resources, according to their history, life course, and gender. Objective: to understand the types of risks generated by the contingency period of COVID-19 as well as the types of coping of men and women, analyzing the differences due to gender. Methodology: Retrospective-qualitative study of an interpretative-comprehensive type, with a phenomenological method and an approach from the risk structuring theory (environmental-social). The types of coping and the gender approach were analytical axes. 36 semi-structured interviews were conducted with older people, 11 men and 25 women. Conclusion: Coping styles in the face of biological risks are similar in both genders, the differences are observed when facing sociocultural, economic and informational risks and are agree with other authors about women using strategies focused on emotion, while men deploy strategies focused on the problem.
