Descripción:This article analyzes the indigenous rebellion in Talamanca under the leadership of Pablo Prebere and Pedro Comesala in September of 1709. This uprising is analyzed in the historical context of the region prior to the rebellion and in relation to the pressure exerted by the Misquito indians, allied with the English, and by other indigenous groups on the Talamancan indians. It offers ethnological information on the Talamancan populations and examines both the organization of the indigenous insurgency and the Spanish repression in the region. Finally it examines the figure of Pablo Presbere as the the most important symbol of resistance for the Costa Rican Indians against outside aggression.
