Descripción:Measuring the installed capacity of a higher education institution is a complex challenge due to the lack of clear methodologies and research in this area, which makes it difficult to assign and use the academic spaces defined almost always according to the number of students enrolled. The objective of the research was to review the application methodology to determine the installed capacity, and the possibility of using or applying (totally or partially) its calculation methodology in a context different from that taken as a reference. The results obtained allowed to establish the partial application of this methodology, this due to the academic structure (understood as the organization and definition of class hours, without taking as reference the structure of credits) under which the institution of higher education taken as an example in this investigation is found. In conclusion, it is mentioned that the calculation of the installed capacity should relate the use of the university spaces with the number of students enrolled by career, program and course; In addition, this combined with the allocation of teaching class hours, would allow to optimize: time, spaces and resources not only academic but also human.
