Competitive gymnastics in the school trajectory of freshman students in physical education programs in Paraná – Brazil

Περιγραφή:The aim of this paper was to analyze the experiences of freshman students of the Physical Education Program in the State of Paraná (Brazil) regarding competitive gymnastics during their Primary and Secondary Education. The research was descriptive with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Participants included 168 students who entered the Physical Education Program in four public universities in Paraná in 2017. The questionnaire used included socio-demographic information, with open and closed questions about the participants’ previous experience in competitive gymnastics in school. Open questions were analyzed by content analysis, while socio-demographic information and close questions were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results evidenced that students had little experience in competitive gymnastics and lacked opportunities to experience and reflect on gymnastics in school Physical Education.
