Descripción: | Experimental inoculation was carried out on rabbits, guinea pigs and rats of the following strains of actinomycetes: Nocardia asteroides, N. brasiliensis, species madurae, species pelletieri, Streptomyces griseus, Actinomyces paraguayemis and Micromonospora sp., using in each case venous, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous inoculation. Animals surviving inoculation 30 days were killed; macroscopie and microscopic examination was made of kidneys, hings, heart, liver and spleen. Results may be summarized as follows: 1. The strain used of Norcardia asteroides was pathogenic only on rabbits and guinea pigs; intraperitoneal and subcutaneous inoculations were ineffective in these animals, and all inoculations on rats. 2. The strain used of Norcardia brasiliensis is strongly pathogenic only for rats in venous inoculation; intraperitoneal and subcutaneous inoculations were negative. Rabbits and guinea pigs were resistant to this strain in all forms of inoculation. 3. Species madurae is not pathogenic on any of the animals used and in any of three forms of inoculation. 4. Species pelletieri gave only one dubious infection on the rabbit inocu1ated venously with 1 cc, all other results being negative. 5. The strain used of Streptomyces griseus is not pathogenic on any of the animals used and in any of the three forms of inoculation. 6. The strain used of Actinomyces paraguayensis gave dubious indications of infection in venous inoculation on all three animals; intraperitoneal and subcutancous inoculations were negative. 7. The strain used of Micromonospora sp. gave only one dubious infection on the rat given an intraperitoneal inoculation of 2 cc.; all others inoculations were negative. |
