Description:A 24 hr red light treatrnent followed by white light enhanced gennination rate on spores of Lygodium japonicum Swarrz. Sulpbite adversely affected gennination and caused abnonnalities in rhizoidal growth. In sulphitefree media the apical growlh left behind the swollen portion of the rhizoids. L. japonicum gametophytes are good bioindicators of  pollution
