Descripción:The following article is derived from the research entitled, “Space, ritual and social structure: el amanecer de los mantudos y la espantaperros”, fulfilled in the Master’s in Anthropology program of the University of Costa Rica. The results were acquired through ethnographic work conducted between 2011 and 2013. It is proposed that the production of social space is not only indicative of the interaction of local and global economic forms, but also of the continuities and ruptures between symbolic practices that engender and preserve the notion of local identity. As such, it is one of the characteristics of sociocultural change that results in transformation of the territory and the social structures.
