Описание:Throughout the 21st century, municipal elections have become significant political events in Costa Rica. This article focuses on a lesser-known period, spanning from 1953 to 1998. By analyzing newspapers, interviews, and official election results, it examines the dynamics related to local authority elections from a historical perspective, with an emphasis on campaign activities, outcomes, and the formation of municipal councils. The electoral results reflect the impact of political competition at the national level, while the campaign and post-election dynamics encompass both local particularities and the influence of a centralist political system, which will only begin to disintegrate towards the end of the period.
