Descripción:The present article deals with a review of academic material on the relationship between depressive disorders and sleep disorders, considering their possible links in terms of causes and symptoms. A review of 33 selected articles from various databases revealed a bidirectional relationship between depression and sleep disorders. Biological factors, such as neurotransmitter dysfunction and melatonin secretion, play a crucial role in both. Additionally, environmental and psychological factors, such as stress and anxiety, also contribute to the interrelation between these conditions. Furthermore, the consumption of substances like alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and certain medications influences sleep and depressive symptoms. In conclusion, the comorbidity between depressive disorders and sleep disorders highlights the need for a comprehensive understanding of both to improve diagnosis and treatment.
