Retrospective socioperception of old age and aging of older people in Santiago Tianguistenco, México

Descripción:Socioperception is the process by which society forms the first impression of a person, this coming from the social phenomena involved in the relationship between individuals and society, derived from the above, the present study aims to analyze the retrospective social perception of old age and aging in the elderly of the municipality of Santiago Tianguistenco. Taking a qualitative approach and using the method of social representations, a sample of 14 people between 60 and 70 years old was taken, using semi-structured interviews to the population, based on the general health law. Among the most predominant results, old age was highlighted as something negative, frequently accompanied by diseases, in addition to the unification of the concept of old age and aging; therefore, it was concluded that experiences, way of life and social relations are aspects in charge of forming the retrospective socioperception of old age and aging.
