Descripción:This article presents the most relevant historical elements related to the topic of thehistory of street vending in the central canton of San José. It describes and explains the scenario of the conflict of street vendors since the late nineties and early twenty-first century with the impulses of the Municipality of San José and other public and private agencies to generate a new city image in the canton centralSan José. This image tries to project San José as a “competitive city” for a high middle class who can invest and acquire a house in a housing tower.
