Descripción:The study introduces with a summary of the present and future situation of the world-wide petroleum market, later to discuss the necessity and real possibilities to produce consumptions substitutes of hydrocarbon. Next and with the purpose of measuring the sensitivity of the Costa Rican economy before changes in the prices of petroleum, functions of demand of petroleum are considered and analyzed, whose empirical results support the thesis that the price inelasticity of the considered demand, implies that an increase in the expense by imports is always positive and very high before increases in the prices of petroleum. It concludes that the idea must be seriously reframed, in certain circumstances, and at specific moments, some raw materials turn out to be as important or more important than the technology.
