Descripción: | This article brings out the importance of the ancestral art of dyeing with plant extracts as used by most ancient civilizations, before the appearance of chemical dyes. Here the form of extracting and applying natural dyes to paper pulps is detailed, through the research work carried out in the School of Fine Arts of the University of Costa Rica. At present, the concern about the environment has become an aspect to be considered when carrying out this type of processes, besides Costa Rica has a great number of dye plants such as turmeric, annatto (the lipstick tree), nance and indigo, with an infinity of paper fibers. These among other reasons, emphasize the necessity of incorporating such handicraft practices in the production and tinting of hand made papers. |
