Description:This paper presents a series of reflections, questions, and even anecdotes concerning the psychiatric institution, what we call the “therapeutic-radial proposal,” and the community-based model of mental health care. We can say, as a kind of “spoiler”, that the community model, insofar as it seeks to replace the psychiatric institution to a certain extent, considering itself more effective, democratic, and ethical in terms of mental health and human rights, appears to be an innovative and highly valuable proposal. However, it also has its limitations, which may find some form of solution in the therapeutic-radial proposal that we will examine later. Thus, first, each of the aforementioned perspectives will be briefly discussed, highlighting some of their foundations and challenges, and then certain ideas will be put forward with the aim of strengthening the community-based model of mental health care.
